Queer Community Contra Dance at Santa Cruz Veterans Memorial Building, Post Room – Santa Cruz, CA
Come have fun and build queer dance community (no experience necessary)!
If you are new to contra dance or just want a refresher, there will be a beginners’ intro at 1:30pm with dancing from 2-5pm. The dances will be called with gender-neutral calling (Larks/Robins) by Edie Sussman, with music by Pajamajam (Cayley Schmid on fiddle and Rosie O’Neil on guitar).
Bring friends, water, non-marking/soft-soled shoes, and please wear a face mask if physically able for community care (extras will be provided)! Pre-registration is not required. We suggest a donation of $0-20 to help cover costs and pay the band, but please come even if you cannot contribute financially.
Contra dance is a form of social folk dancing that involves dancing with many new people. No experience or partners necessary, and anyone can dance either/both roles! For more information about contra, check out https://santacruzcontra.com/ and https://www.lcfd.org/resources.html. This event is oriented towards the LGBTQIA+ community and open to our allies and friends.
For specific accessibility questions, email kdalessi@outlook.com. If you’re coming from farther away, consider coming early to dance the night away with Pajamajam in Monterey on Saturday (07/18)!
