Tehorah, meaning “pure” in Hebrew, is a moving and unforgettable musical experience that weaves history, memory, and resilience into one powerful evening of song and storytelling. Written, directed, and performed by Chanteuse Internationale Adrienne Haan, and accompanied by her longtime NY music director Richard Danley and award-winning Israeli violinist Leerone Hakami, Tehorah is a historical-poetic portrait that traces Jewish life through the 20th century using music composed exclusively by Jewish composers and librettists.
Performed in German, English, Yiddish, and Hebrew, the journey begins in the dazzling cabarets of 1920s Weimar Berlin, the birthplace of artistic freedom and modern cabaret, before the rise of Nazism abruptly silenced the Golden Age. From there, the program travels through the Łódź (Litzmannstadt) Ghetto, expressed through haunting Yiddish melodies, and ultimately arrives in the Promised Land, uplifted by some of the most beautiful works ever written in Hebrew.
Since its premiere at Carnegie Hall in 2015, Tehorah has been presented around the world at prestigious venues and international festivals, including performances across Europe, Canada, South America, and Africa.
