Under the Mango Tree – A Play Reading
On a hill overlooking her college campus, Twyla-Angel finds a tree where she shares African stories.
Jacob, the son of an animation tycoon, has already claimed the tree as his refuge from technology and family pressures. Neither of them will give up the tree. The battle for the tree sparks a clash between culture, nature, and technology, leading to friendships, betrayals, and reconciliation.
After a week under the dramaturgy and direction of dr d’bi young anitafrika’s method, this story is revived, refined, and presented by Alex Furber and Lennette Randall. It explores the themes of cultural appropriation, intellectual property, loss, faith, and mental health, all intertwined with music and humour. Oral storytelling at its best. Come and hear a story.
