Our slam team will be hosting a night for more poetry and more poets! We’ll be creating additional opportunities for poets to share their work, offering more open mic space, and making room for themed events, alternative formats, and exciting experiments.

Whether you’re a weekly regular or stepping down our stairs for the first time, we invite you to join as we celebrate how poetry challenges and connects us. Each Takeover will be a little different, but each time we’ll be booting Blake off the stage and taking over!! Come see what happens when we hand the keys to the poets!

For July, the Lizard Lounge Slam Team celebrates Independence in poetry, performance, and expression…

…with a No Rules Slam! We’ll loosen the usual boundaries and invite poets to sever their poems from traditional slam-format rules. Consider incorporating music, props, and group pieces—creative risks are welcome. Want to honor another poet’s work? With citation, it’s allowed! Want to try something you haven’t seen in a slam before? This is your chance! Maybe we’ll eventhe time.

Respect for fellow poets, audience members, and the space remains paramount. Beyond that, we’re excited to see where your independence takes you!
