Etruscans and Greek settlers produced wine in Italy before the Romans planted their own vineyards in the 2nd century BC. The Romans greatly increased Italy’s area under vine using efficient viticultural and winemaking methods and pioneered large-scale production and storage techniques such as barrel-making and bottling.

Tuscany is home to some of the world’s most notable wine regions. Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano are primarily made with Sangiovese grape whereas the Vernaccia grape is the basis of the white Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Tuscany is also known for the dessert wine Vin Santo, made from a variety of the region’s grapes.

The tour starts on the Ponte Vecchio where you will receive your glass and the bag to enjoy your wine while walking. The tour continues on to Oltrarno, Santo Spirito, San Frediano districts as you listen to stories about the old bridge, Vasari Corridor, Pitti Palace and the Medici dynasty. On the way you’ll admire the traditional architecture of the city that was the birthplace of the Renaissance.These districts are further afield from the usual tourist places with beautiful squares, gardens, palaces, and history. Your guide will help you feel the atmosphere of Florentine life happening here.

Continue on the tour to pass through the famous Golden bridge, Ponte Vecchio, and then cross the river to enter the religious and political heart of Florence.
