EXPERIENCE:

Start at the Palazzo Ducale, also known as Doge’s Palace. It is one of the main landmarks of the city. This masterpiece of Gothic architecture used to be the residence of the Doge before becoming the main cultural center of the city today. The exterior architecture is breathtaking with many layers of buildings to admire.

As we continue, you will stop by St. Mark’s Basilica. The church has always been the hub of religious life in Venice. One of the interesting facts about this place is that during the high tide, you can only visit the basilica by walking through catwalks. These walkways were placed in case the sea rises above normal levels. What’s more, St. Mark’s Basilica was constructed right next to St. Mark’s Square, the next step on the journey.

Next, you will visit St. Mark’s Square, which is the heart of the city. It is a big, open space surrounded by important government buildings and other facilities central to the city. After completion, the Piazza quickly became the central meeting point for Venetians up to now.

As we continue, you will see the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo. Despite being located in a small alleyway, this little-known gem promises wonderful views of the city with a graceful spiral staircase on the outside which happens to be the tallest one in the city. The staircase is considered to be a mix of 3 architectural styles: Renaissance, Gothic, and Venetian-Byzantine.

Rialto Bridge is the next destination you stop by. Known as the “Bridge of Lovers”, the Rialto Bridge is one of Venice’s most beautiful bridges. The elegant arched stone bridge dates back to the 16th century, but it is still in pristine condition and is considered to be an important landmark of the city. From up there, you can watch gondolas, a kind of small Venetian boat, rowing through the canal below. This bridge is also associated with a very interesting attraction which is also the final stop of this tour, Rialto Food Market.

Walking about 100 meters away from the bridge, you will come across a busy market offering a variety of fresh produce such as fruits, vegetables, and fish. Even if you are not in for shopping, the market is still a treat for the senses with colorful stacks of produce and a jolly atmosphere. There is so much to explore here!

Next, you will visit the Basilica S.Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, one of the largest churches in Venice. Its simple and elegant appearance contrasts with its majestic interior. It boasts several sculptures and artwork that is well worth admiring.

Finish your tour at the Grand Canal, the most famous and the main waterway of the city, dividing the city into two parts. It is lined on either bank by many palaces, churches, and other public buildings in different architectural styles: Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance.
