Venice: Giudecca Island Discover Walking Tour - Venice, Italy
  • Anywhere

EXPERIENCE:

Discover the fishbone-like shaped Giudecca Island, known to be Venice’s unofficial seventh sestiere (neighborhood), on a guided walking trip of the Island. Once an aristocratic retreat and later the city industrial center, the island nowadays boasts a trendy artistic district.

After meeting your guide for the day, set out to walk through characteristic Giudecca, the largest and closest island to Venice, from which it is separated by the broad and deep Giudecca Canal. Travel via waterbus to Giudecca and enjoy breath-taking views of the city on the way.

The peacefulness of the island has also made it popular among religious communities and with patrician families who have built palaces with gardens and allotments here.

You’ll get to see how, after the fall of the republic, these areas were converted into warehouses, barracks, prisons, factories, and workers’ quarters. Today, some of them have been converted for artistic and modern purposes.

Walk through the long pedestrian quay running the length of the island’s Venice-facing side and wander around its hidden lagoon-facing side with lush gardens, inspiring galleries, and neighborhoods.
