Vasarely Foundation : contemporary art, exhibitions, events - Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

EXPERIENCE:

It was in 1976, that Victor Vasarely, the father of Op’Art, inaugurated in Aix-en-Provence, an Architectonic Center. This building mixing light and movement is an example of integration of both art and architecture, in order to realise the ‘Cité Polychrome du Bonheur.’

Composed of sixteen hexagon-shaped cells, the Vasarely Foundation will make you travel to a dazzling universe of optical illusions through 42 monumental integrations and 2 sculptures. In those spaces : colors, forms, and lines are overlapped, mixed and reversed which creates optical illusion effects.

Further than the monumental pieces, you’ll have the privelege to know more about the Visual Master’s journey from Hungary to France, and discover the impact of sciences in his art, thanks to the ‘Vasarely Plasticien’ permanent exhibition.
From his beginnings as advertising graphic designer in the 1930’s when he came to Paris, to the making of his monumental integrations, a chronological path is suggested so his life and legacy won’t be a secret for you.

According to the artist’s will, the Vasarely Foundation advocates for the promotion of emerging contemporary artists in order to celebrate their work and give them visibility. To do so, our team design multiple temporary exhibitions, celebrating the esthetic of artists inspired by the legacy of Victor Vasarely.
