EXPERIENCE:

View works by master artists like Caravaggio, Mariano Rossi, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini with this ticket to the Borghese Gallery and Museum in Rome. Apricate and enjoy great works of art for yourself.

Connect with the past at this gallery that was initiated by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, the nephew of Pope Paul V and an avid collector of works by Caravaggio, who is well represented in the collection with the ‘Boy with Basket of Fruit,” “Saint Jerome Writing,” and “Sick Bacchus.”

Enjoy a large fresco on the ceiling of the first room, the work of the Sicilian artist Mariano Rossi, who makes such good use of foreshortening that it seems almost three-dimensional. Admire the fresco which depicts Marcus Furius Camillus reliving siege of the capitol by the Gauls.

Enter the first room of the Salon, the Chamber of Ceres. Take in its marble vase depicting Oedipus and the Sphinx. The second room has a ceiling frescoed by Francesco Caccianiga with the Fall of Phaeton. Make your way to the third room which houses Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne.

Stroll through the works of Gian Lorenzo Bernini that make up a significant percentage of his production of secular sculpture. View his early works such as the Goat Amalthea and Child Jupiter and later work that are seminal works of Baroque sculpture like the Rape of Proserpine, Apollo, Daphne, and David.

Step back in time in the Galleria Borghese where there are several portrait busts, including one of Pope Paul V and two portraits of one of his first patrons, Cardinal Scipione Borghese.
