Local legends claim that Pedra da Gávea is visited by extraterrestrials and serves as a portal to other dimensions. The hiking trail starts in Barra da Tijuca and winds through the lush Atlantic Rainforest.

Hikers should watch for small mammals and birds in the treetops. The trail ends at the summit of Pedra da Gávea, standing 844 meters high, offering some of the best views in Rio de Janeiro.
