EXPERIENCE

Our French Quarter tasting and history tour will take you away to another world! First, you will receive a warm welcome from your personable, knowledgeable, experienced and licensed tour guide. From there, you will taste many of the delicious and historic foods that locals love. Beginning in 1719, we became a city of immigrants: First the French, who brought enslaved Africans. Then, we received Acadians, who were expelled by the British from the area in Canada now known as Quebec. In 1763, after the seven year war ended, the Spanish arrived. By 1890, there was an influx of Sicilians. You will learn about these pathways, as well as the historic difference between Creole and Cajun recipes.
As you walk the narrow streets of the 300 year old French Quarter, you will feel as though you’ve gone back in time. It is the closest thing to being in Europe in the United States. Seeing historic Jackson Square and the stately St. Louis Cathedral is part of the tour. Your guide will impart stories of events that shaped our city of today.
Architecture in the French Quarter is very exciting to see! Find Creole townhouses, American townhouses, Creole Cottages, Shotgun houses, raised Center-Hall cottages, Queen Anne houses, and the Louisiana Supreme Court building, a mammoth Beaux-Arts masterpiece fashioned from white granite.
Your tour ends at 800 Decatur Street. Continue your fun by visiting the Old French Market, where you can buy souvenirs at better prices than in the shops. Or Choose the Old Mint; now known as the Jazz Museum on Esplanade. Check out the 1850 House for books on all things New Orleans. Tour the Pontalba Apartment, above the store. See how the locals lived in 1850.
