Ottawa: Highlights and History Walking Tour - Ontario, Canada

EXPERIENCE

As the capital of Canada, Ottawa has a plethora of interesting and historical buildings. Some are there because it is the capital – Parliament, the Supreme Court, museums, and embassies. Some, like Notre Dame Cathedral, go back to the city’s founding before Canada was a country.

There are monuments of prime ministers, heroic Canadians, events and symbols of ideals. You’ll see Sir Robert Borden, the Famous Five, the National War Memorial, and even Sir Galahad!

Perhaps best of all, Ottawa is visually beautiful. It’s dominated by the Ottawa and Rideau Rivers and has parkways and walking trails along a UNESCO Heritage Sight, the Rideau Canal.

I have lived in Ottawa for more than 40 years – studied its history and walked and biked in its splendour daily. Let me show you my city – the capital of Canada and a great place to live and enjoy life!

This tour is three hours, but a shorter tour could be crafted if you so desire. Please contact me and we’ll work something out.

While each tour can be customized to meet your particular interests, the standard tour is as follows.

After meeting in the centre of the oldest part of Ottawa, we’ll walk alongside the rapids of the Ottawa river.

-Reaching Sussex, we’ll see some of the oldest buildings in the city, as well as beautiful new architecture like the National Gallery.

-In Majors Hill Park you’ll see the 8 locks at the end of the Rideau Canal, overseen by Colonel John By who built the canal and gave the town its original name.

-We’ll continue on to parliament hill with memorials to various prime ministers and a couple of monarchs. Along the way, I’ll point out important and interesting buildings on Wellington.

Along the way there’ll be ample opportunities to stop for refreshments or just bask in the nature and history.
