MONUMENTS OF PARIS – FROM OPERA TO PLACE DE LA CONCORDE – Paris, France

EXPERIENCE:

Starting from the spectacular Paris Opera, the Opéra Garnier, you will discover the history of the buildings on foot. We will then continue to the “Café de la Paix” and to the Place Vendôme, one of the architectural jewels left by Louis XIV, the “Sun King”. We will walk on the square (Ritz hotel, Vendôme column…) then walk towards the boulevard des Capucines to discover a very special building with its red iron façade, where the first impressionist exhibition took place. We will continue with the Palais Royal, built by Richelieu in 1628. It holds a high place in the history of France and Parisian life. Next, we venture onwards to the famous Louvre Palace. This former royal palace is located between the Tuileries Garden and the SaintGermain-l’Auxerrois church. It extends over an impressive area of 135,000 m2. It now houses the world famous Louvre Museum. The construction of the Louvre is inseparable from the history of Paris. It spans more than 800 years, although the general plan of the palace was not imagined until the Renaissance. Charles V established his residence here, giving the palace the status of the largest royal residence, preserved until the reign of Louis XIV and the Palace of Versailles. We will walk through the Jardin des Tuileries, the largest and oldest French garden in the capital, to reach the Place de la Concorde. It covers 8.64 hectares and is the largest square in Paris. The name would have been chosen by the ¿Directory¿ to mark the reconciliation of the French after the excesses of the reign of revolutionary terror. This monumental ensemble is, from the point of view of urban planning, the most important creation of the Age of Enlightenment in the capital. Our tour will end at the foot of the obelisk, originally from the temple of Amun of Luxor in Egypt, dating from the thirteenth century BC. J.-C.et erected on this square in 1836.
