Founded in 1957, the Mariposa Museum & History Center houses a large array of exhibits interpreting Native American, Spanish Settlement, California Gold Rush, Yosemite, and Mariposa County History. The museum’s collection presents an authentic picture of people and life in Mariposa, concentrating on the Gold Rush and late 19th century.

See artifacts of the mining days and rooms recreating old dwellings and stores from the era. Groups can even experience a live blacksmithing session. The World Class Vault contains a large archive of photographs, special collections, and Mariposa County Records.

The mission of the Mariposa Museum and History Center is to preserve and interpret local culture and history, cultivate pride in the community, and inspire visitors from around the world.
