Jack the Ripper Pub Crawl Winter Wednesdays - London, United Kingdom
  • Anywhere

EXPERIENCE:

This tour is different to most of the Jack the Ripper tours: what makes this different is the emphasis on drinking as well as walking through the history of the infamous murders – with each victim being discussed in a lovely pub, as well as outside the place where the victim was found. The Tour Guide is dressed in character as a Cockney Whore and tells the stories of the women, where and how they lived, interweving this with atmospherics relating to 1888 Whitechapel. Exploring along the way, forensics of the time, the press, the underground information system, and of course, the theories. This tour is infinately more than a Whodunnit. Each of the pubs serves food – all of them serve alcohol, one of them is an Alehouse, one of them a Gin Palace, one has it’s original traditional Victorian frontage.
Starting at The White Hart, the backstory of The Whitechapel Murders is provided by the costumed guide while we have our first pint. The first victim, Mary ‘Polly’ Ann Nichols and her fate is discussed – referring to the Jack the Ripper Casebook and photographs the costumed guide has to show guests on this tour. We talk here about London’s Jewish, and Irish population of the time, the housing and about Doss Houses and what they were.
Next Victim is Annie Chapman and the story of this woman is told in The Blind Beggar pub: this public house has an East End Gangster history that is told here – to accompany the history of the poor victim of Jack the Ripper.
Next Victim is Elizabeth Stride, her story is told while in The Princess of Prussia, a lovely looking Victorian pub: here is near to the Police Station of the time and we talk about the various treatments of the story in film & media
The next victim is Catherine Eddowes. Her story is disscussed in The Trinity Bell, a pub with a Gin Palace basement. Here we talk about the history of The Gin Palace and it’s place in the Jack the Ripper story.
Our last place and last victim is Mary Kelly – the only victim to have been found indooors – the pictures of this victim are particularly graphic, and this is shared in an Alehouse: Williams Ale & Cider House is our final pub where we go over the various theories about Jack, why the victims were chosen and everyone present gets to contribute their own theory.
Each pub, each place during the walk/talk is a unique opportunity for a photo shoot and each tour participant is photographed with the guide and is given the opportunity to make clips with the advice of the guide who is also a Top Ten Contributer to Google Maps references
