Historic and Cultural Tour of the Best of Acapulco - Chihuahua (State), Mexico

EXPERIENCE:

Take this cultural sightseeing tour of Acapulco and you will soon see why the vibrant Mexican city has come to represent the union of continents, cultures and people.

In the company of bilingual guides, you will travel in comfort in fully-equipped vehicles with large-view windows.

Your 4-hour tour begins with a visit to the magnificent Chapel of Peace, originally constructed to crown the heights of Acapulco with a deep spiritual message. Built by architect Gabriel Chavez de la Mora, it is dominated by an enormous cross that can be seen throughout the city. The religious site is a magnet for people of many faiths, who come together to celebrate their shared devotion to God.

You will then head to the imposing Fort of San Diego in the Port of Acapulco. Home to the Historic Museum of Acapulco, it consists of 13 permanent exhibits, as well as temporary exhibition space. There will be time to stroll through the grounds and to enjoy some refreshing drinks before you continue your journey.

You will pass by the home of Dolores Olmedo, a generous patron of the arts and culture in Mexico, and friend of the artist Diego Rivera. It was at her home that Rivera completed his last work before his death from cancer in November 1957.

The tour ends at the legendary Flamingos Hotel, famous for its movie star guests, such as Johnny Weismuller, John Wayne and Cary Grant. They found refuge from their fast-paced Hollywood lives in the hotel’s clifftop location, and you will get to enjoy spectacular ocean views from their former hideaway.

The tour allows time for some souvenir shopping, and will pick you up and drop you off at selected Acapulco hotels on request.
