  • Anywhere

EXPERIENCE:

London Transport Museum, the world’s leading museum of urban transport, invites you on a guided tour journeying 11 stories underground to explore one of eight deep-level air raid shelters that exist below the streets of London.

Join our expert guides and delve into the shelter’s history as you explore disused tunnels and passageways. Opened to the public in July 1944, Clapham South deep-level shelter has over a mile of subterranean passageways that reveal the extraordinary stories of those who sheltered here, from Londoners seeking refuge during the Second World War, to hopeful Caribbean migrants arriving on the Empire Windrush, and even thrifty visitors to the Festival of Britain.

All Hidden London tours are written by historical experts from London Transport Museum and based on content drawn from the Museum’s extensive archive and collection. The tours were named ’Best Hidden Gem in the World’ at the Tiqets’ Remarkable Venue Awards 2022 by public vote.
