Guided tour to MAR – Art Museum of the city of Ravenna – Emilia-Romagna, Italy

EXPERIENCE:

The guided tour of the museum MAR, is an opportunity to take a journey through the history of the mosaic to the present day and to see how the art of mosaic is still alive in Ravenna.

With its temporary and permanent exhibitions, the museum is in fact a fervent pole of the arts in the city, that allows you to research the knowledge of this art, of which the UNESCO monuments are only the origin.

The tour will focus on temporary exhibitions when possible and to follow on the permanent exhibition of Modern and Contemporary Mosaics, that opens with the works created for the Exhibition of Modern Mosaics, which was inaugurated in 1959 and symbolized a pivotal moment in the renewal of mosaic art.

The artistic committee involved art historians, such as Chagall, Guttuso, Giulio Carlo Argan, Palma Bucarelli, Afro, Mathieu, Santomaso, and Vedova.

The exhibition continues with the section dedicated to the Contemporary Declinations, which traces the development of a new phase of research from the seventies, where mosaicists free themselves completely from the role of the executioners.

From 14 October 2023 to 14 January 2024 the tour will include a visit to the exhibition “Burri Ravenna Oro”.
