Discover the ancient city of Egnazia (or Gnathia), which was inhabited by the indigenous populations of the Japigi, the Messapi, and Greeks up until the Roman age. Admire the mighty defensive walls and visit the site of the necropolis.

See the remains of the Via Traiana way, the Civil Basilica with the hall of the Three Graces (kept in the museum), the oriental deities, the square with the arcades, the cryptoporticus and the Roman baths. Marvel at the Episcopal Basilica and the Southern Basilica which was originally paved with mosaics.

Later, visit the recently renovated Giuseppe Andreassi National Archaeological Museum, built outside the walls of ancient Gnathia, in the area of the Messapian necropolis. Learn about thirty centuries of history starting from the Bronze Age up until the Messapian and Roman eras, through exceptional exhibits and panels with photos of the excavations. Don’t miss the marble head of the god Attis and the mosaic of the Graces which stand out for their impressive beauty.
