From Cusco: Chinchero Moray and Salt Mines Maras Tour - Cusco, Peru
  • Anywhere

EXPERIENCE:

At around 8:00 a.m., we’ll collect you from your hotel and set off for Chinchero, situated at an elevation of 3,762 meters. Here, in the plaza, you’ll encounter an adobe colonial church dating back to the early seventeenth century, constructed atop an Inca palace, featuring stone walls adorned with trapezoidal niches that serve as seating for the traditional market, where bartering is still a common practice.
Following this, we’ll tour a weaving workshop, where local artisans continue the Quechua tradition, demonstrating their use of natural plants to extract colors while offering the opportunity to don Andean attire for picturesque moments.
Our journey proceeds to Moray, situated at an elevation of 3,450 meters (11,318 feet), where we encounter a mesmerizing landscape of agricultural terraces intricately designed with a complex irrigation system. These terraces, sculpted into a massive natural bowl, were expanded by the Incas themselves.

After we visit Maras Village, where the preserved colonial architecture features thin-stone buildings, we’ll proceed to the remarkable Salineras salt mines. Comprising 3,000 small pools, this historic site has been in operation since pre-Inca times and continues to produce salt that is ground, treated with iodine, packaged, and distributed to various markets in the region.
Finally, you’ll return to the city in time to enjoy lunch on your own.
