From Cusco: 5-Day Journey of Colors to Machu Picchu – Cusco, Peru

EXPERIENCE:

Day 1: Cusco
After getting picked up from the airport or bus terminal in Cusco, get dropped off at the hotel and enjoy some free time to settle in. Afterward, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Cusco and get see Qoricancha and the archaeological sites of Saqsayhuaman, Qenqo, and Tambomachay. 

Day 2: Sacred Valley
Today, begin your adventure up the plains, stopping first at Chinchero, an important ancient site known as the birthplace of the rainbow. Visit the main site with its picturesque colonial church, as well as a visit to a local textile center.

Continuing through the rolling hills, visit the enigmatic circular terraces of Moray where you will learn how these constructions served as an experimental agricultural center. Nearby, stop at the town of Maras to visit the ancient salt mines, used for thousands of years to supply salt to the Incas.

In the afternoon, travel to Ollantaytambo and board the train to Aguas Calientes for your visit to Machu Picchu.

Day 3: Machu Picchu
Wake early to have breakfast and board the bus up to Machu Picchu, and watch the first rays of sun light up this magical mountain. Enjoy a 3-hour guided tour of the site before returning to Aguas Calientes for lunch and a rest before getting the train back to Ollantaytambo. Following your train journey, head back to Cusco and get dropped off back at the hotel.

Day 4: Rainbow Mountain
Rise early again for a light breakfast before your journey to Vinincunca, also known as the Mountain of Seven Colors. Along the way, appreciate the essence of the Andes, from its small agricultural communities and snow-capped peaks to the herds of alpacas and abundant vegetation. At the end of the road, begin your trek towards the high pass where you can observe the picturesque mountain of many colors.

After lunch, spend some more time getting to know the area, the community, and its traditions before returning to Cusco.

Day 5: Airport Transfer
Say goodbye to your guide and get dropped off at the airport in time for your return flight.
