From Cusco: 2-Day Inca Trail Hiking Tour to Machu Picchu – Cusco, Peru

EXPERIENCE:

Embark on an overnight hiking tour from Cusco and explore Andean trails as you make your way to Machu Picchu, taking in some amazing views along the way. Fill up on the go with the included breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Stay overnight at a cozy hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Day 1:

Be picked up from your hotel in Cusco before sunrise to catch the train in Ollantaytambo. Journey 65 miles on the train to reach the starting point of your hike. Cross a bridge over the Sacred River and make your way to the archaeological center of Chachabamba and Choquesuysuy.

Continue hiking for a few more hours until you arrive at Wiñaywayna, a facinating archaeological center with 20 buildings. After exploring the area for a little while, continue on the a trail that takes you up stone stairs until you reach the Sun Gate.

Take in the views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding valley from 8,923 feet at this spot which in Inca times functioned as an entrance to the dazzling Citadel of Machu Picchu. After taking in the views, descend to Machu Picchu (8,169 feet).

Later, trek to Aguas Calientes, where you can enjoy a delicious dinner at a cozy restaurant and spend the night in a hotel.

Day 2:

Wake up early and head to Machu Picchu for tour of this famous site. Visit all the most critical areas of the citadel and learn about the Incas. After your tour, you have free time to explore the site yourself, and if you have permits, you can climb Huayna Picchu or the Machu Picchu mountain.

In the afternoon, take the train back to Ollantaytambo, then return to Cusco to conclude unforgettable experience.
