Day 1: Arequipa – Chivay-Yanque
Benefit from pickup at your hotel in Arequipa at approximately 7:30-08:00 AM and head northwest towards the snow-capped mountain of Chachani. See wild vicuñas, alpacas and llamas in the Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve, and look for native birdlife such as flamingoes, ibises, Andean geese, ducks and Andean eagles (Kara Kara). Stop at the viewing point for spectacular views of the volcanoes and snow-covered mountains in Patapampa. Then, descend to the town of Yanque for a delicious lunch at the Casa de la Luna lodge. Enjoy amenities such as cotton sheets, anti-allergic pillows, central heating, a large bathroom with tub, hot water, soft cotton towels, and much more to make your stay an unforgettable experience.

In the afternoon you can relax on your private terrace, enjoy the lodge facilities, or take a 3-hour guided trek if you are feeling energetic. Go to the amphitheater of Oqolle to see the pre-Inca farming terraces, and cross the Sifon Bridge to appreciate the majesty of the Colca Canyon. Climb to the ruins of Uyu Uyu for a panoramic view of the canyon and town of Yanque. Visit the hot springs and relax in the thermal waters before returning to the lodge, where you will enjoy dinner before retiring for the night.

Wake for an early breakfast to give you fuel for a full-day excursion on the left banks of the Colca Canyon. Visit some beautiful and typical towns to see colonial churches and interact with the gentle locals in typical needlework dresses. Marvel at the hundreds of pre-Inca farming terraces that are still used to grow the produce of the Andes, such as corn, quinoa, and kiwicha, a type of seed that has been farmed for over 4,000 years. Take a 2-hour drive through stunning landscapes to see the Cruz del Condor (Condor’s Cross) and discover the deepest part of the canyon and the flight route of the condor.
