From Ancash: Full Day Ascent of Pico Mateo Snow Peak – Ancash, Peru

EXPERIENCE

Our exciting day begins between 3:00 and 3:30a.m., when we will depart from Huaraz to Carhuaz. From there, we will embark on an unforgettable excursion into the majestic Cordillera Blanca, culminating at Punta Olimpica, in a journey that will take approximately 3 hours. Around 5:30 a.m., we will be ready to gear up and receive a brief instruction before beginning our ascent up the steep, rocky moraine of the south face of Nevado Contrahierbas. After about 2 hours of challenging hiking, we will reach the starting point of the glacier, where we will equip ourselves with the necessary mountaineering gear, such as crampons, ropes and ice axes, to ascend the glacier for 1.5 to 2 hours until we reach the summit of the imposing Pico Mateo, which rises to 5150 meters above sea level. We will enjoy a few moments at the summit, capturing countless photographs before starting our descent along the same path, an adventure that will take us approximately 2.5 hours to the road, where our transport will be waiting for us, returning to Huaraz by vehicle will take us about 3 hours, culminating our exciting excursion between 15:00 and 16:00 hours, with indelible memories of this incredible experience in the heights of the Cordillera Blanca.
