EXPERIENCE

A trip to Etchmiadzin is a spiritual journey into the heart of Christian Armenia.
The Etchmiadzin Cathedral was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. The cathedral was erected in 303 on the site of a pagan temple. According to legend, Gregory the Illuminator had a dream that the Only-Begotten Christ descended from heaven with a fiery hammer in his hands and indicated the place to build a temple.
The Etchmiadzin Treasury Museum, among numerous other treasures, houses not only the holy spear with which Christ was pierced, but also the miraculously preserved remains of Noah’s Ark.
Continuing the tour, we will look at the beautiful Church of St. Hripsime and go to look at the ruins of the Zvartnots Temple. Zvartnots, the “temple of vigilant angels,” was erected back in the 7th century. Today, only ruins remain of the temple, but they will also give an idea of the former greatness of this magnificent structure.
