EXPERIENCE

The East MacDonnell Ranges half-day tour is an excellent opportunity to explore the panoramic landscapes of the East MacDonnell Ranges. View spectacular outback scenery and take photos as we travel along through magnificent Outback Country, stopping at the many historical locations. The East MacDonnell Ranges are popular as Central Australia’s most famous outback landscapes – gaps, gorges, bush walks, Aboriginal art and unique geological formations. Alice Holiday Tours has a feeling of getting away from town and taking you to explore Central Australia’s natural beauty.

Move onward to Emily and Jessie Gaps Nature Park, the first noticeable feature of the East MacDonnell Ranges as you drive 10 kilometers out of Alice Springs. The 2 small gaps in the Heavitree Range are spiritual sites to the Eastern Arrernte Aboriginal people.
Hear as your guide shares the caterpillar Dreamtime story associated with many places in the surrounding landscape that form a ‘Dreaming Trail’. See a large rock painting depicting the caterpillar dreaming at Emily Gap.
Next up is Corroboree Rock, an outcrop of dolomite from the Bitter Springs Formation laid down in salty lakes 800 million years ago. Follow your guide on a short walk to have a closer look at the ancient sedimentary rock. Learn about its significance to the Eastern Arrernte people.
Continue to Trephina Gorge Nature Park which offers rugged landscapes, wildlife, and Aboriginal histories of the East MacDonnell Ranges. Go on a network of walking tracks for views across a sandy creek bed. See an abundance of animals and birds that come to drink from the waterholes in this area.
Then, prepare to see the largest Ghost Gum in Central Australia, which is more than 300 years old. Get close to the Giant Ghost Gum Tree, admiring its startling white trunk and branches. Conclude the tour with a convenient drop-off at your hotel.
