EXPERIENCE:

Day 1: Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Salkantay Pass :
Commencing with a hotel pick-up, we embark on a journey to Mollepata, a two-hour drive away, for breakfast. Continuing for an additional hour by car to Soraypampa, we meet the horsemen and horses responsible for transporting luggage, food, and each hiker’s 7-kilogram belongings. The uphill hike to Humantay Lake lasts for 2 hours, followed by a descent of 2 hours back to Soraypampa. Finally, we proceed to the Salkantay Pass camp where a delightful lunch awaits, providing free time for exploration or relaxation.

Day 2: Salkantay Pass – Wuayracmachay – Chaullay Camp :
The second day proves to be the most challenging, involving an ascent to 4630 meters and a 20-kilometer trek. Around 5:00 a.m., the cooks wake you with a cup of hot coca tea, followed by breakfast at 5:45 a.m. The hike to the Salkantay trail’s highest point (4630 m) spans 3 hours, featuring insights into the mountain gods and participation in a small Andean ritual for the Apus. A 2-hour walk leads to the lunch spot, followed by a 3-hour descent to the second camp, Chaullay (2900m), marking the start of the Peruvian Amazon area.

Day 3: Chaullay – Santa Teresa – Hydroelectric – Aguas Calientes :
A 6:00 a.m. wake-up call with coca tea precedes a delicious breakfast at 7:00 a.m. The 5-hour hike to Sahuayaco beach is followed by local transportation to Santa Teresa, where lunch is served. After a 45-minute car ride to Hidroeléctrica, a 3-hour walk along train tracks takes you to Aguas Calientes for some well-deserved rest.

Day 4: Machu Picchu – Cusco :
Following breakfast, a 30-minute walk brings you to the Ruins Bridge checkpoint, open at 5:00 a.m. After passport and Machu Picchu ticket verification, a one-hour climb up the stairs leads to the main gate of Machu Picchu around 6:00 a.m. A 2.5-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu is followed by free time for personal exploration. Departing from Machu Picchu, two return options to Cusco are offered: train or bus.
