Cusco: Salkantay Trek 4 Days 3 Nights with return by train - Cusco, Peru

EXPERIENCE:

(Book weeks in advance or check availability of tickets to Machu Picchu, to avoid inconveniences).

Day 1: Cusco -Soraypampa – Humantay Lagoon – Salkantay Pass

-We will start the adventure by picking you up from your hotel (near or inside the historical centre) between 4:30 am, we will travel to Mollepata where we will have breakfast. Then we will continue to Soraypampa where the horses will be waiting for us to carry the luggage of each passenger (only 7 kilos) and the horsemen who will accompany us. We will walk uphill until we reach the Humantay Lagoon, after our visit we will begin our descent to Soraypampa and from there to the Salkantay Pass camp where we will spend the night, upon arrival we will enjoy a delicious lunch, then you will have time to walk and explore the area.

Day 2: Salkantay Pass – Wuayracmachay – Chaullay Campsite

-We will wake up early to have breakfast and get ready to start the trek, this day is the most difficult of the whole route because we will arrive at an altitude of 4630 meters and we will walk 20 km. We will start walking for approximately 3 hours until we pass the Salkantay trail, the highest part of our trek, we will perform a small Andean ritual to the Apus who are the gods of the mountains to protect us throughout our journey. Then we will continue walking for 2 hours to the place where we will have lunch. On the way we will be able to observe beautiful landscapes and Andean flora and fauna, then we will descend for 3 hours to the second camp of Chaullay where we will spend the night.

Day 3: Chaullay – Santa Teresa – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes

-We will wake you up early at 6:00 am so you can have breakfast and get your things ready, at 7:00 am we will continue with the hike to Playa Sahuayaco, when you arrive you will take local transport to Santa Teresa, on arrival you will have lunch. Then you will take a car for 45 minutes to Hidroeléctrica, once here we will walk for 3 hours along the train tracks to the town of Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night.

Day 4: Machu Picchu – Cuzco

-We start this day early with a delicious breakfast, then you will start a walk from the village to the checkpoint Puente de las Ruinas, here you will have to present your passports and your tickets to Machu Picchu, then passing the checkpoint you will climb many stairs for about 1 hour to the main gate of Machu Picchu, there we should be at 6:00 am. We will enjoy a guided tour of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, we will have time to explore and take pictures, at the end of the tour we will return to the village where you can have lunch on your own, in the afternoon you should head to the station at the time indicated on your tickets to board the train back to Ollantaytambo and from here we will transfer to a bus bound for the city of Cusco.
