Cockayne Farmstead: Cockayne Farmhouse Guided Tour - Glen Dale, West Virginia
  • Anywhere

EXPERIENCE

Tour the historic Cockayne Farmhouse, built in 1850 and last updated in the 1890s. See the family’s original furniture, documents, photographs, and more untouched by time.

Once the center of a highly prosperous, socially elite Marshall County farm, the house survives as a time capsule documenting West Virginia’s rich agricultural past. As you tour the house, learn about four generations of the family, from Samuel Andrew Jackson Cockayne, the innovative businessman, to the Cockayne sisters, all artists and musicians with incredible talent, to Samuel Andrew Jackson Cockayne the grandson, World War II veteran and mysterious recluse.

Step back into the Cockayne’s world to experience their lives, struggles, and triumphs. As the landscape around them progressed and evolved, their farmhouse remained frozen in time, a 19th-century farm, a 20th-century relic, and a 21st-century legacy.
