EXPERIENCE

We will meet at 10:00 am at Tangol’s office in the San Telmo neighborhood to start the tour of all the emblematic places of Jorge Bergoglio’s life.

The first stop will be at his childhood home in the Flores neighborhood, where he lived with his parents and siblings. Then, you will also visit the places where he studied such as the Instituto Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia and the Universidad del Salvador along with the Iglesia del Salvador.

You will also see the Church of Pope Francis’ childhood and adolescence: the Basilica of San José de Flores. This was the Basilica where, at the age of 17, he received the “divine call” that would commit him forever to the service of the Church. As he says: “I immersed myself in the mercy of God and (that moment) is closely linked to my episcopal motto”. It was then that Jorge Bergoglio decided that he would dedicate himself to the priesthood.

Continuing on with this walk through Jorge Bergoglio’s path to becoming Pope, we will see the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians and St. Charles where he was baptized. We will know the history of Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro too, of which Pope Francis is a passionate fan.
Also, we will visit the San Ignacio de Loyola Church in the neighborhood of Montserrat, built by the Society of Jesus in 1675. It is the oldest preserved church in Buenos Aires and is part of the Manzanas de las Luces.

Then, you will head to the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral, which overlooks Plaza de Mayo. Considered the main Catholic church in Buenos Aires, was declared a historical monument in 1942.

It is the Cathedral where the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge Bergoglio, gave important Masses. Also here, the devoted followers of Pope Francis awaited the announcement that he would proclaim him as Supreme Pontiff.
