  • Anywhere

EXPERIENCE

We will meet at 8:00 a.m. in the Plaza de Armas of Ayacucho, where we will begin this full-day excursion in which we will visit the most representative places in the province of Huanta.

Our first stop will be at the Piquimachay cave, a cavern more than 20,000 years old. Did you know that its name in Quechua means flea cave? To get there, we will walk for about 30 minutes and, once there, we will explore this grotto that was discovered and studied by American archaeologist Richard MacNeish.

We will delve into its different levels. The deepest stratum, called Paracaisa, corresponds to the Lithic period, while the intermediate and upper levels are located in the Pleistocene and Archaic periods, respectively.

After knowing all the secrets of the Piquimachay cave, we will head towards the municipality of Huanta, known as the Emerald of the Andes. Do you want to know why? We’ll find out!

We will take a tour of the town, visiting its Plaza Mayor, the Mother Church and the venerated figure of the Bishop of Stone. We will end this guided tour of Huanta in the best possible way: with a tasting of typical liquors made from native fruits such as coca, lucuma, muña and algarrobina.

We will conclude the excursion with a stop at the Aqocacha waterfall. Finally, we will arrive at the departure point around 5:00 p.m.
