EXPERIENCE

Keep yourself safe in the mountains and learn important avalanche safety skills on this 2-day course, offered by Alpine Air Adventures, in partnership with Avalanche Canada. Learn theory on the first day before you take your new skills to the backcountry in Banff National Park alongside your guide.

Focus on the training curriculum on the first day with a classroom session held on Zoom. Learn about the mountain conditions and weather patterns that contribute to avalanche hazards as you study Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 (AST 1). This session will start at 9:00am and will finish at approximately 3/4pm.

The field day will be held at Bow Summit or Vermilion Pass. Put your new skills to the test with simulated companion rescues, snowpack analyses, and weak layer recognition. Learn more about terrain use and avoidance as well as group dynamics and risk tolerance from your guide. The start and finish times will be similar to that of the classroom.
