Antique – Epic Tour to Khor Virap, Gorge of Angels – Ararat Province, Armenia

Armenia is famous for many sights, one place is special and resonates in the soul of every resident of our country! Khor Virap Monastery is located near the capital, offering a fascinating view of the biblical mount Ararat. “Khor Virap” means “deep dungeon”. The monastery was built on the site of the former royal dungeon, where Gregory the Illuminator, the first Catholicos of Armenia, was held for 13 years. Therefore, it is not surprising that this is one of the most sacred places for Armenians from all over the world.

Then we will visit the Azat Lake, which is located at an altitude of 1050 meters above sea level and is located in the picturesque Ararat region. It was established in 1976 in order to provide irrigation to the Ararat Valley. Surrounded by mountain peaks, this place inspires visitors with its beauty. The reflection of the sun or moon in the water surface, merging with the clouds, creates amazing landscapes.
Azat Lake is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. In hot weather, there is no shelter from the sun, so it is necessary to use sunscreen.
Over time, this lake has become a favorite tourist destination. The views from its shores capture the imagination. Created by man, the lake today is an emerging ecosystem and home to many species of animals. It is home to a variety of fish such as carp, carp, crucian carp, rudd and others, which makes this place ideal for fishing and recreation for both locals and tourists.

A river flowed through this gorge, the course of which changed over time, and now a beautiful trail has been created for hikers.
There is also mineral water with medicinal properties on this territory. It should also be noted that the gorge of Angels is of great interest to amateur photographers, as it differs greatly from others in its color, structure and appearance.
