From the 16th to the 17th centuries, Jewish people were the target of much hostility in Europe and were often, tragically, expelled from their homes. Amsterdam welcomed much of Europe’s Jewish population and the Jewish community in Amsterdam became one of the most important and vibrant in Europe.
