EXPERIENCE

Day 1: Cusco – Waqrapukara
After picking you up at the meeting point in Cusco, we will head south towards the beautiful landscapes of the Pomacanchi lagoon. We will make a brief stop on its shore to photograph its spectacular natural surroundings.

We will continue our route in the town of Sangarará, known for its temple of the Virgin of the Snows. After learning about its amazing legend, we will gather strength for the rest of the itinerary with a good breakfast. The journey will continue in the community of Pitumarca, from which we will begin a hiking route. The walking tour will end next to the archaeological site of Waqrapukara. Dinner and accommodation in a local camp until the next day.

Day 2: Waqrapukara-Cusco
After breakfast at the camp, we will take a guided tour of the archaeological site of Waqrapukara. Under the ancient Intipunku or “door of the sun” we will discover some interesting facts about the pre-Columbian civilizations that built and later fought for control of this strategic enclave.

During the tour of the archaeological site we will also observe the cave paintings that are still preserved. Would you be able to interpret their meaning? After the visit to Waqrapukara we will return to the camp for lunch. After lunch we will walk to the outskirts of Sangarará, where the bus will be waiting for us that will finally take us back to Cusco.
