Among the Bees at Heidrun Meadery – Point Reyes Station, CA
AMONG THE BEES
Picnic Lunch • Meet the Bees • Honey Harvesting • Mead Tasting
Sunday, July 19 | Noon–4:00 PM | 6 Guests Max
An unforgettable afternoon with one of nature’s most extraordinary creatures. A one-of-a-kind West Marin experience with Ovalsand Yoga & Wellness.
Spend an immersive afternoon at Heidrun Meadery, where you’ll discover the fascinating world of honeybees, experience the art of beekeeping firsthand, and learn how honey becomes sparkling mead.
We’ll begin with a nourishing picnic lunch on the beautiful grounds of Heidrun Meadery, surrounded by rolling hills, olive trees, wildflowers, and gardens giving everyone an opportunity to relax, settle in, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings before our beekeeping adventure begins.
After lunch, we’ll meet Heidrun’s master beekeepers, suit up in protective bee gear, and make our way toward the apiary—the place where honeybee colonies live and thrive.
Guided by experienced beekeepers and dressed in protective suits, we’ll do a hands-on inspection of working hives. From those hives, we’ll pull frames laden with honey to hand-extract, and jar up estate honey to take home with you!
You may be surprised to discover that honeybees are far more interested in going about their work than paying attention to us. Busy gathering nectar, tending the hive, and supporting their queen, they aren’t something to fear—they’re remarkable pollinators that make much of the food we eat and the landscapes we love possible.
Following our time with the bees, we’ll take a guided tour of the meadery to discover how Heidrun transforms raw honey into its award-winning sparkling meads using champagne methods.
Mead is crafted entirely from honey rather than grapes, making it one of the world’s oldest fermented beverages. Heidrun Meadery takes its name from Heidrun, the mythical Norse goat said to produce the magical mead enjoyed by Odin and the gods. Fortunately, today’s sparkling mead comes entirely from honey—not goats!
We’ll conclude our afternoon with a guided tasting of Heidrun’s distinctive sparkling meads, appredciating the remarkable journey from flower to flute!
By the end of the afternoon, you’ll likely leave with a newfound appreciation for these extraordinary little creatures.
