This DC-based chamber choir will perform works on the theme of love by the composers of the early-Baroque period: Monteverdi and Strozzi.

Described by the Washington Post as “a cautionary pre-Valentine’s day” program, “The Plague of Love” features madrigals by Barbara Strozzi and Claudio Monteverdi. In a time and region where devastating plagues could be common and life was short, Monteverdi and Strozzi and the poets whose texts they set focused much of their artistic energy on love, depicting it alternately as torture, war, distraction, delight.
