MLK Day Activity at Locust Street Art – Buffalo, NY

Join us for an activity learning about Gees Bend Alabama and its connection to Martin Luther King Jr.

Gees Bend Alabama an African American community that’s known for its beautiful, modern art style quilts. LSA’s Interim Executive Director, Emma Brittain, has visited this community and learned with some of the quilt makers! She’ll tell some of the stories of the artists there and explain their connection to Martin Luther King jr. (which includes some very important mules!). Then she will lead the kids in a small fabric crafting activity resembling a Gee’s Bend quilt.

Time 12pm-1:30pm

Winter Weekends are Pay What You Wish activities led by LSA volunteers, donations help offset supply costs and then go towards our Free Community Art Class Fund.

Accessibility – Locust Street Art is located in a historic building with about nine steps to get into the building. We are currently fundraising to make our building more accessible. Please contact us if you have concerns related to accessibility so we can try to make accommodations. Limited free parking is available on the street.
