A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu event for women and girls taught by some of the best women in the sport. No experience required.

Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!

Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It’s our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.

Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.

You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.

GIG Arkansas-Cave Springs Guest instructors: Melody McGill & Chelsea Martinez

Chelsea Martinez started jui jitsu in 2008 while pursuing an undergraduate degree. She found her passion on the mats and wanted to find some way to bridge education and love for jui jitsu. She continued to practice Jiu jitsu intermittently from 2008-14. Until she sustained a bad concussion that kept her off the mats for several years. In 2021 while she was pursuing her doctorate degree in physical therapy she was also suffering with depression and complex grief. Even considering self harm when she decided to return to BJJ after a 9 year hiatus, In 2023 she moved to Northwest Arkansas and joined Alliance and received her brown belt Dec 2023. Finishing the gi season #6 overall Master purple belt. She also works as a medic for IBJJF and AGF in addition to referee. She currently trains full time at Fayetteville BJJ.

Melody McGill is former track and field state champion hurdler. She began jiu jitsu in 2017, having a desire to compete in sports again. She joined Alliance Jiu Jitsu of NWA and had her first competition four weeks in and got double gold and has never looked back. She has competed in multiple IBJJFs, AGFs JJWLs and Fujis. She received her BB in 2023 after 7 years of training/competing.

COST: $20 Min Donation. All Donations Welcome.

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER ONLINE. ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL BE CLOSED 1/18/25 at 2:00 PM OR ONCE WE REACH CAPACITY. WALK-INS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ONCE CAPACITY IS REACHED.

Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and all sales are final. Doors open at 12:30 pm. Please arrive early to change and get ready or come ready so we may start on time at 1:00 pm.
