Exploring the Basic 13 Tai Chi Postures
The 13 Postures are the foundation of all styles of Tai Chi Chuan. Understanding them can help deepen your Tai Chi study, including “Tai Chi” philosophy and “Quan” (physical movement), as a WHOLE of “Yin” and “Yang”. This workshop also helps any tai chi form, each essential part of the 13 provides the meaning behind basic tai chi movement allowing you to improve your tai chi skills much faster and more accurately.

These 13 postures were derived from the Tai Chi Philosophy of the Five Elements and the Eight Trigrams.

The Five Elements for how to step correctly:

wood (step left with energy of liver)
fire (step forward to improve Qi of heart )
earth (sinking & centering enhance life balance)
gold (step right to purify Qi from lung)
water (step backward for life wisdom)

The Eight Trigrams for how to understand body and arm movements:

Peng (ward-off)
Lu (roll-back)
Ji (press)
An (push)
Tsai (pull-down)
Lieh (split)
Chou (elbow strike)
Kao (shoulder strike)
Chin (advance)
Tui (retreat)
Ku (look left)
Pan (look right)
Ting (center)

Since the basic 13 postures are the foundation for tai chi forms and for wisdom for life, Hong has created this workshop to explore the different layers, physical level, Qi (internal energy level, and non-physical (Shen) level of Tai Chi. Even if you attended her Basic 13 workshop in person before, there are more than 10 levels or countless levels of studying so there are more valuable and deeper treasures to learn, explore, and embody! Those of you who attended her previous workshops and the courses on The Relationship Between Tai Chi Philosophy and Tai Chi Chuan will revisit some of those concepts. However, Hong will make it easy to attend without prerequisites so that everyone who has learned any tai chi form can register.
Who may attend:
Anyone who practice any Tai Chi form, wants to learn both Tai Chi skills and Tai Chi theory/philosophy behind forms and movements, and wants to understand the relationship between Tai Chi movements and Tai Chi balance/wisdom in life.
