She has been making people dance in the Bay Area dance scene for over 20 years. Currently Emancipation designs the sounds at her monthly spring-summertime outdoor jump, SOULOVELY, founded by the first all lady DJ crew based in Oakland, CA. With a mixture of house, reggae, African, soul, and whatever necessary to get the crowd open, SOULOVELY is a testament to the beauty of Oakland’s diversity. As a former resident at Brothers and Sisters with DJ Dedan and bearing a musical ear and work ethic honed from her job as a live and recording sound engineer, DJ Emancipation is far more substance over style. You can hear it in her attention to blends and see it in the way she reads a room.  She is also a resident of SKIN, a project of Candi Martinez and DJ Cecil that brings dancers and djs together over the love of deep, spiritual, ancestral dance music.

Nothing makes her happier than to witness her beloved communities get free on the dance floor. Smiles, sweat, grace, and love for one another, it all reminds her of how glorious this life truly is.

@djfloridawtr is a DJ, musician, visual creator, and event producer based in Oakland. With roots in percussion and Afro-diasporic drumming from his upbringing in Florida, global rhythms form the heartbeat of his dynamic DJ sets. As the owner of @nectarsocialclub, he brings together diverse communities to fellowship around culture, music, and celebration.

Deeply inspired by the pulse of house music, @djfloridawtr believes that it serves as a modern form of ceremony, creating spaces where people from different cultures and generations can connect, dance, and heal. House music’s rhythmic beats are a spiritual experience for him, reflecting a powerful connection to sound as a tool for unity and transformation. Through each set, he channels that energy, using music to build bridges, foster inclusivity, and celebrate the shared human experience.

For @djfloridawtr, house music isn’t just a genre—it’s a ritual, a celebration of life that transcends language, borders, and time, making every event he curates a spiritual gathering centered around joy and connection.

DJ Cecil’s music has delighted listeners and warmed up dance floors all over the world. Notably talented as a musician, recording engineer and producer, Cecil’s deep love for music stems from a childhood soundtrack of old jazz and gospel records, an adolescence inspired by hip hop’s golden era, and the fine tunings of studying classical piano.

However, his arrival to the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 90’s would set the stage for something much greater; a path that would soon position him as an integral part of a burgeoning and beautiful soulful house music and dance scene. His passion for music is contagious; as he cleverly fuses house with the beautiful nuances of jazz, soul, hip hop and deep world rhythms. The result is a refreshing and colorful dance floor experience, that keeps the body at attention and the heart tenderly in tune.

Pulling from the influential rather than the derivative commercial end of the record crate, DJ Cecil continues to be guided by his genuine love of music.
