No matter how you first met Tarzan—through Edgar Rice Burroughs’ novels, comics, classic films, TV series, Disney’s animated movie, Phil Collins’ songs, or this stage musical—you’ve likely come to love him. This touching story of a human boy raised by apes who grows into a kind and intelligent young man is beautifully adapted for the stage by David Henry Hwang. The message that true family is about unconditional love, not just biology, is powerfully conveyed in Tarzan’s solo, “Everything That I Am.” This daring musical combines the best elements of Tarzan’s incarnations: jungle adventure, young love, and self-discovery.
