At the River Songwriters’ Series will feature their 14th Monthly Series Show on Thursday, Oct 24th with enchanting music of songwriters!

Come down to Pettaquamscutt Lake Shores Clubhouse for our”spooky” At the River Songwriters’ Series show on Thursday, Oct 24th! We are so excited to feature the talented and accomplished Allysen Callery, Jan Luby, Mary Pierce and Margi Gianquinto in this fantastic Monthly series At the River.

You will be enchanted by the music, excited about the vibe and connected to some great local folks. We are building connections through songs and we encourage you to come and experience a night At the River!

Allysen Callery is a self-taught folk artist from Bristol, Rhode Island. Growing up she was heavily influenced by her parent’s British Isles Folk Revival records of the late 60′s early 70′s.

Allysen Callery is a self taught singer songwriter from Bristol , Rhode Island , whose delicate, mesmerizing sound has been a favorite on the RI folk scene. Her music has found it’s way overseas and has been embraced by listeners in the UK and Europe.

2020 saw the release of “Ghost Folk”, an album which made Folk Radio UK’s coveted Top Albums of the year, and Austria’s Guteshoerenistwichtig named it Album of the year saying : “Somehow she seems to come from somewhere else. Traveled through the clouds or gone through the stones. Her music is neither spooky nor eerie, but rather surrounded by a kind of positive mysticism and a familiar strangeness, radiating charm and a generous flair.”

Jan Luby is known for her engaging, often riveting stage-presence as well as her voice full of passion, range and power.

Jan was a finalist in the Boston Acoustic Underground (Performing Songwriter) Competition in 1995. During her dive into motherhood, she kept her hand in writing songs and recording her first album Tough Like a Weed in 2000. Jan was a semi-finalist in the RISA Songwriting Competition (2017). She was voted Female Vocalist of the year 2011 by Motif Magazine, nominated for Singer/Songwriter in 2012, and her song A Roof and Four Walls added to the success of the compilation album Everyone Needs a Home which won best Best Americana album that same year.

Jan’s songs are evocative, lyrical and infectious personal stories. Her approach to songwriting ranges from socially relevant to irreverent, heartbreaking to humorous. She just released Night Window, her 3rd CD and hopes to get back into the studio to record a 4th album of songs inspired by motherhood and her daughter. We are so excited to have Jan debut in the At the River Series!

Mary Pierce, Singer/Songwriter, a Narragansett resident, has deep roots in RI which date back to 1626 in North Kingstown. Mary was inspired throughout her childhood and teen years by Irish and American Folk artists and has written and recorded 4 albums: Miles Away, Dublin Bay, Hideaway, Memory Road and is launching her 5th album “Warrior,” which brings a compelling force of strength and courage of women being warriors of love and hope.

Her passion for writing, creative energy and her vulnerability emotes through her music. In 2023, she received a top award by The Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival and WICN Folk Revival Radio for one of her original songs. Mary is the Founder and Producer of At the River Songwriters Series and states “I am so excited to see the growth and inspiration filling the room in the At the River Songwriters’ Series each month that began 14 months ago. It is such a fabulous venue and we look forward to hearing talented local artists each month in this intimate setting overlooking the water. We are also building community and friendships with our neighbors and like-hearted songwriters here At the River!”

Mary has been performing with her sister, Margi Gianquinto (harmony and piano) for several years and recorded the first album together called “Miles Away.” Mary and Margi’s beautiful, unique and seamless vocal blend is often referred to as ‘the third voice” .

Mary has collaborated both live and in recording sessions with Irish multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Donohue (Chieftains and Cherish the Ladies), fiddler Pat Mangan (Riverdance and Come from Away), producer/pianist David Shenton . Margi Gianquinto: margisings.com

Margi, (Mary’s sister) have had a special sister collaboration since Mary began to write 12 years ago. They would often meet casually in the living room over a cup of tea and explore the new songs where Margi would often provide accompaniment with chords and harmony. “It evolves in a very organic way.” “The harmonies fall into place through an openess, and a deep sister connection”. says Margi. Margi and Mary recorded the first album ‘Miles Away’ in NYC.

Margi is an accomplished jazz singer, pianist, music educator, and choir director with a diverse musical background. Her love of harmony and her multiple talents are artfully blended into each of her projects across many genres-from folk to jazz. Margi divides her time between teaching, performing, and residencies with her jazz band in the Connecticut and NYC area. Margi graduated from Providence College with a degree in music (classical piano/choral) and humanities. “It has been a joy to sing/play with my sister, Mary, and see the growth we have experienced together in bringing the songs to their fullest.” “We hope to continue or sister collaboration for a long, long time!” Looking forward to hearing Margi At the River!
