THE HEART OF THE WORKSHOP
The Last Chapter Together: Navigating Aging, Love and Letting Go is a 2.5-day workshop that explores aging not as a decline or “enemy” to be managed, but as a distinct and unique developmental life process where human potential continues throughout elderhood. Moving beyond the old paradigm of 65 as the beginning of the end of human potential, we will examine how our motivations and the ways we fulfill our potential evolve as we age. We invite participants to live these added years with intention rather than unconsciously, mindfully preparing for and experiencing elderhood as a period of personal reawakening, new beginnings, vibrant renewal, focused purpose, deep peace, and lasting joy.
Led by four elder Gestalt therapists, the workshop is experiential, didactic, dialogic, and relational. In true Gestalt fashion, the presenters themselves are the curriculum; they do not just teach this process, they are the process, striving to live “aging as a practice.” This practice is a conscious, ongoing engagement with our bodies, minds, spirits, relationships, the relational field, meaning-making, and mortality, knowing that the Last Chapter is being written in present time. By bringing Gestalt’s core tenets of presence, contact, and phenomenological awareness to this crossover of “what is,” we view aging as a life to be fully lived until the final chapter is written.
The workshop addresses aging head-on by encouraging participants to name and face ageism and the fears of growing old, while inviting them to get in touch with their purpose, passion, and wisdom. It explores the crucial elements in the developmental shift from adulthood to wisdom-filled elderhood and addresses the core questions evoked by this stage of life. Ultimately, the experience expands beyond individual aging to become a relational ecosystem across generations. It is designed to be both clinically useful for therapists and deeply personal for each participant, inspiring attendees to create and embrace a new, vibrant next chapter that delivers aging’s gifts of elder wisdom and ongoing personal growth.
Who is this workshop for?
The Last Chapter is for everyone—because we all keep getting older every day!
Whether you are personally in the sunset of your life, looking ahead to your own future, working professionally with elders, or are the child of ‘olders’ currently navigating life’s transitions, this workshop provides the community, tools, and heart to support everyone on the journey
