Equally at home in the worlds of jazz, traditional and contemporary pop and Brazilian, Billy puts his inimitable spin on songs by composers as varied as the Gershwins, Barry Manilow, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Peter Allen and so many more. He performs with a natural ease and spontaneity and, as Patrick Honor of Musical Theatre Review wrote, he really has the gift of communicating with his audience and holding them in the palm of his hand, even though his hands are often on the keyboard! Of this shows 2023 premiere at New Yorks famed Birdland Jazz Club, Will Friedwald of The New York Sun said, Mr. Stritch has the technique to play almost anything he wants, and more than most musicians who have worked so extensively in cabaret and musical theater, he is at heart – and on the surface – a jazz musician. Join Billy as he performs an evening of sophisticated melodies and lyrics enveloped in dazzling harmonies as only he can! Billy Stritch has been a presence on the New York and national nightclub scene for nearly four decades. He began his career in Houston where we formed the vocal trio Montgomery, Plant and Stritch. The group performed all over New York and Europe from 1983 until they parted ways in 1990. That same year, Billy started his solo performing career. He is perhaps best known for his 25 year position as musical director and pianist for Liza Minnelli and has also toured with Linda Eder, Melissa Manchester, Marilyn Maye, Linda Lavin and the late Tony Bennett among many others. His 1993 composition Does He Love You won the Grammy award and was recently recorded by Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton garnering another Grammy nomination in 2023. Billy was named Outstanding Musical Director for the fourth time by Broadway World and his 2022 birthday show at New Yorks famed Birdland Jazz Club was named Outstanding Vocal Jazz Engagement of the year. During 2020-21, Billy presented his own livestream show Billys Place, a series of 65 hour long concerts, now archived on his Billy Stritch YouTube channel. He has recorded numerous solo albums and his most recent release Billys Place (Club44 Records) is available on all the streaming platforms and at his website billystritch.com.
