EXPERIENCE:

Today’s tour starts with a drive past Cardiff Castle set in the heart of the Capital City of Wales. A combination of building work from more than one period of time. Built by the Romans in the first century AD and then the subject of the Norman invasion in the 11th century and inherited by the second Marquis of Bute in the 19th century who transformed it into an opulent palace despite only being resident a few months of the year. Later left by the fifth Marquis of Bute to the people of Cardiff.
Continuing our journey we arrive at Caerphilly town which is our first stop of the day. With a population of just 42,000 Caerphilly is home to the largest Castle in Wales and the second largest castle in Great Britain. Here you have the opportunity to explore the castle if desired as well as taking refreshments before we continue our journey deep into the Welsh valleys and the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Suitably refreshed we leave Caerphilly and say goodbye to the Welsh Castles and travel into the Welsh valleys and the famous Brecon Beacons National Park which covers an area of 500 sq. miles.
Travelling across the National Park we get to view the many reservoirs which make South Wales self – sufficient in the supply of water as well as seeing some of the twelve million sheep that roam the Welsh countryside and hopefully the famous wild horses which live on the beacons. Our stop in the national park is famous Brecon Beacons visitors’ centre where you can view Pen-y-fan which is the highest mountain in South Wales as well as having the opportunity to walk on the Beacons in a safe traffic free area as well as learning the history of the Beacons at the visitors centre.
As we leave the National Park we continue to our last stop which is Brecon town known worldwide for being the venue of the renowned Jazz festival. Here the opportunity unfolds to explore interesting and unusual shops selling books, antiques and local crafts. Famous for its Georgian architecture and ancient Cathedral Church as well as being the start of the famous Brecon and Monmouthshire canal which winds its way through the countryside and finishes near the city of Newport. With the tour at an end we return to our vehicle for the return journey.
