Boboli Garden Guided Tour in Florence - Florence, Italy
  • Anywhere

EXPERIENCE:

The “artichoke” fountain, a sizable octagonal basin adorned with numerous statues and topped by a bronze lily, is the first stop on your tour after you cross the Pitti Palace’s courtyard. As the tour guide explains the design of this lovely garden, you can see the “Amphitheatre” that was built adjoining to the hill behind the palace in front of you.

You can find “Neptune’s fountain” as you ascend the hill, and Giambologna’s enormous statue of “Abundance” is located right at the summit. Later, the guide will lead you down a steeply sloping avenue and back up the hill to the “Viottolone,” a broad avenue lined with cypress trees and statues, which continues all the way to the “Isolotto,” a sizable pond with an impressive fountain called “The Ocean,” designed by Giambologna.

The final stops will be at the Michelangelo-built Giardino del Cavaliere, the “Kaffeehaus,” and the “Buontalenti Grotto,” which Buontalenti created from limestone concrete stalactites, shells, and terracotta reliefs, with water running down the walls providing vivacity and color as the guide reveals all the secrets behind these designs.

The tour lasts for about an hour, which is just enough time to see the garden’s highlights. After the tour is over, you can go back to any place you might want to see again.
