You will also visit one of the catacombs, underground cemetery outside the city walls, most important in Rome “San Callisto” where the dead were buried, the early Christians simply obeyed the laws of the time.
They were forced to use them due to persecution. Many saints were buried here, and the catacombs later became shrines and places of pilgrimage.
After the visit, rejoin the vehicle at your disposal to go to San Clemente.
You will take a journey back in time in the church of San Clemente as you go down into the basement you will go through two thousand years of history. The medieval church stands on the remains of a 4th century basilica which in turn covers older buildings of the emperor Nero, you can admire the sanctuary dedicated to the oriental divinity Mithra’s.
