Feelings are part of being human. We all have them, whether we acknowledge them or not. Yet most of us were never taught what emotions actually are, why we have them, or how to relate to them in a healthy way. Instead, many of us learned to fix them, avoid them, talk ourselves out of them, or rush other people through them.

In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore what it really means to build a relationship with emotions…. your own and those of the people around you.

Together, we’ll talk about emotional intelligence in real-life terms and focus on becoming more emotionally fluent: the ability to notice feelings, understand their role, and respond to them with curiosity rather than control. This is not about “staying positive” or getting rid of uncomfortable emotions. It’s about learning how to support yourself through them.

We’ll also explore how our discomfort with emotions often shows up in our relationships, especially when we try to fix, minimize, or avoid other people’s feelings. You’ll learn practical tools for how to show up differently, deepen connection, and create more emotionally supportive relationships at home, at work, and in everyday life.

This workshop blends clinical insight with real-world examples, simple language, and practical tools you can actually use. Whether you want to better understand your own inner world or improve how you relate to others, this is a chance to learn about something that is with you all the time—your emotions.

About the Speaker:
Maria Winters, LCPC is a licensed mental health therapist, a published author, a mom, a chocolate lover, and a trained life coach. She is the founder and owner of The Coaching Therapist, LLC – a practice dedicated to offering workshops and training on different topics related to emotional and mental wellbeing.

Maria has over 20 years offering mental health support to adults and adolescents. She is the creator of The Emotional Fitness Studio in Annapolis.
