Diablo Restoration Team (DiRT) Day Water Crew

Enjoy the beauty of Mount Diablo’s foothills as we fight impacts of climate change by watering native restoration plantings. In order to help increase survival rates, we water each seedling every three weeks during dry months. Watering is the vital next step to this restoration project and we need your help! Volunteers will meet at Marsh Creek 4 to start the morning watering there and up the hill at Marsh Creek 6. Then the group will caravan over to the Clayton Park ‘N ride at 1000 Peacock Creek and load into our SMD vehicle to water at Irish Canyon. Our project at Irish Canyon is in partnership with the East Contra Costa County Habitat Conservancy.

Please note: Watering involves walking on uneven and sloped terrain while holding 1-3 gallon jugs of water to nourish seedlings. There is not a bathroom facility onsite.

Please RSVP if you are able to attend so that we know to expect you. Our waiver is included in the sign up process.

Park & Meet: Marsh Creek 4 – 3240 Aspara Drive, Clayton, CA 94517. Parking is on a flat, paved road. GPS coordinates: 37.892837, -121.854166.

What to Bring: Water bottle and snacks. Sturdy closed-toed shoes, comfy work clothes with long pants, weather protection (i.e. hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), work gloves if you have them (we also have extras). Please be prepared to walk through tall dry grass. All other tools and materials will be provided.

Policy for volunteers under 18 years old: All volunteers that are minors must be accompanied by an adult and the adult must sign the minor up on their behalf.

Participants will be notified in the event of cancellation due to extreme weather conditions. An AQI of 150 or above automatically cancels the workday.
